4" Silicon Carbide Grinding Stone

This 4" silicon carbide grinding stone is used to grind and shape natural stone surfaces by hand-held grinder, including granite, marble, travertine and terrazzo. It is offered across the full grit range — #24, #36, #46, #60, #80, #120 and #220 — so a fabricator can move from coarse stock removal to a fine, smooth finish on the same job.

Features

  • Silicon carbide abrasive for grinding and shaping granite, marble, travertine and terrazzo
  • Full grit lineup from #24 (coarse) through #220 (fine) for staged shaping and finishing
  • 4" diameter sized for hand-held grinders and polishers
  • Coarser grits (#24–#46) remove material quickly for initial shaping; finer grits (#80–#220) refine and smooth the surface
Grit SKU Typical Stage
#24 GS024 Coarse — heavy stock removal / rough shaping
#36 GS036 Coarse — rough shaping
#46 GS046 Medium-coarse shaping
#60 GS060 Medium shaping / leveling
#80 GS080 Medium-fine smoothing
#120 GS120 Fine smoothing
#220 GS220 Fine finishing
  1. Match the stone to the job: coarser grits (#24–#46) for shaping and heavy material removal, finer grits (#80–#220) for smoothing and finishing.
  2. Mount the stone on a hand-held grinder or polisher sized for a 4" grinding stone and confirm the tool's rated speed is within the stone's rated limit before starting.
  3. Work the stone across the stone surface with light, even pressure; let the abrasive do the cutting rather than forcing it.
  4. Step up through grits progressively (e.g. #24 → #60 → #120 → #220) rather than skipping straight to a fine grit on rough stock.
  5. Wear eye, hand and respiratory protection; silica-bearing stone dust is a respiratory hazard whether ground wet or dry.

Mounting 4" silicon carbide grinding stones in this size commonly thread onto a 5/8"-11 arbor on a hand-held grinder — confirm the exact fitment against the tool and the stone's own markings before mounting.

Wear appropriate eye, hand and respiratory PPE. Confirm the stone's rated speed does not exceed your tool's RPM. Follow the tool and stone manufacturer's instructions and applicable safety regulations.
